Lessons From a Kauri Tree

Yesterday I spent a day out in Titirangi, an absolutely magical place. A place of beauty and wonder, of nourishment and peace. No disruptions. Honking cars replaced by the sweet melody of the tui. Flashing posters made no appearance, and instead you were surrounded by towering trees. It felt like a never discovered wonderland.

Yet, there was one place that did it for me. A place of history, power, and absolute humility. The absolute spectacle of the Arataki Nature Trail - Kauri Cathedral.

When you go out into nature like that, you order why you every worry. There's nothing to worry about in this beautiful life. As you stand bellow the mammoth trees that have overlooked these plain for over 600 years, you are humble by their power and immensity. By their magnitude and majesty.

Yet, they are the humble ones. Standing quietly. Watching us loony beings run from one place to another, trying to find a meaning in our actions. Complete stillness. Sucking up every drop of strength, waiting to unleash their breath-taking potential. Presence, stillness, patience is all they muster.

We must learn from these spectacles. We must rise high above the canopy and overlook the turmoil we perceive in our lives. In this presence, you will see the big picture. One hill is a small part of the ever amounting forest, just as one moment, one day is a small fraction of the eternity of life.

Let's take a step back and observe, look at the hills and valleys you have climbed over your life time. Realise there is more to come, but this is the beauty of it all. This is the beauty of life.
